The Process of Your Marriage in Georgia

In the following we explain the process of your marriage ceremony in Georgia. This is much easier in Georgia than getting married in Denmark. First of all, we assume the civil marriage in a registry office in the capital Tbilisi.

Tbilisi is a historical and modern city at the same time and offers many possibilities... If you wish, other places can also be arranged, such as Kutaisi, Batumi, or the historical Sighnagi...

Step by Step...

1

We check the documents

You send us a copy of your data and ID electronically and we will talk about your situation together and find out together which additional documents may be required.

2

Translation and certification of documents

We have your passports notarially translated into Georgian before your arrival in Georgia. After that, you only need to travel with your original passports.

If one of the partners has already been married, the relevant documents such as divorce decrees can also be translated and certified in the respective form.

We advise you on what needs to be done and take care of everything for you on site.

3

Submission of the prepared documents to the registry office

In coordination with you, we will contact the registry office in Tbilisi and submit your documents in advance for examination.

4

Scheduling the appointment

Before your arrival, we jointly coordinate the date for the marriage ceremony.

Depending on the date and the registry office, the wedding ceremony can take place within one day if you wish.

As a rule, we can always accommodate our couples' preferred dates and adapt to your needs.

Unlike in Germany or Denmark, appointments can usually be booked at short notice within days.

5

Marriage

The wedding ceremony takes place in Georgian language and script. That is why we are by your side as interpreters during the marriage ceremony. We are officially accredited as interpreters at Georgian registry offices.

In addition, we are also present as necessary witnesses at the ceremony.

After the wedding, the bride and groom receive their marriage certificates directly in Georgian.

6

Documents

After the wedding, we arrange directly for the creation of the required certified translations of the marriage certificates with apostilles at the Justice Office for the couple. Typically, 3 certified translations with apostilles are needed.

After completion of the required certified translations in the respective languages with apostilles for the marriage certificates, we carefully review the translations and all data and have any necessary corrections made directly. Following our thorough review, the completed documents are handed over to the couple. The documents also include a QR code from the Georgian Ministry of Justice, which allows the couple to view the Georgian marriage register online.

7

Aftercare

After the wedding, we also support you in the further process after the wedding, so that you can soon live together in the same country.

After the wedding, we are always available to our couples with our experience for any further questions regarding topics such as spousal visas for family reunification, residence permits, and the procedures involved.

Important Information

Marry within a few days

There is no waiting period for a marriage in Georgia. If the documents are available, the marriage can even take place on the same day, depending on the scheduling at the local registry office.

The reason for this is that birth certificates and certificates of celibacy or marriage certificates are not required there. In Georgia, these documents are replaced by an affidavit from the couple at the local registry office shortly before the wedding.

Significantly faster and less complicated than, for example, getting married in Denmark. Especially for international couples...

Hague Apostille Convention

The marriage certificate from Georgia is a valid document in all 117 member countries of the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. It does not have to be additionally legitimized in your home country. Our couples receive four copies of their marriage certificate in Georgian.

Of these, we typically have three translated into the language of each spouse's home country by the Georgian judicial authorities, with notarization and apostille. This provides a valid marriage certificate in each spouse's home country.

A second copy is provided in the language of the country where one spouse is applying for a family reunification visa. The fourth, purely Georgian copy serves as a backup.

Upon marriage, a spouse's name change is also possible under Georgian law. The husband can also take the wife's surname here.

Requirements

The only requirement is passports or alternative travel passports.

If one of the partners is already divorced, the divorce decree can be provided with an apostille from home and then translated and certified on site in Georgia in order to present it to the registry office. The minimum age for marriage in Georgia is 18 years.

Visa

Spouses from many countries, including foreigners in Germany with a travel document, are allowed to enter Georgia without a visa. This also applies to holders of a Schengen visa or a residence permit from the Schengen area.

Accordingly, you do not need a marriage visa in Georgia before getting married. You can simply enter as a tourist and then get married there legally.
